Amazon FNSKU label placement checklist (pass/fail)
Conclusion: Most FNSKU scan fails and inbound rework come from wrong label size/scale, quiet-zone crop, labels on curves/corners, leftover manufacturer barcodes still scannable, or labels buried under poly bags. Use this interactive pass/fail checklist—check each rule at the prep station, track progress, save locally, then Print checklist. This is not a pixel or DPI calculator (woven/Transparency pixel tools are linked separately). Confirm every rule in live Seller Central.

How to use
Run the checklist at the labeling station
- Open this page next to your label printer and the first sample unit of the ASIN.
- Work top-to-bottom: barcode choice → print/size → quiet zones → placement → cover other barcodes → poly-bag outside → scan sample → carton notes.
- Tap each box as you confirm the rule. Progress % updates and persists in localStorage on this device.
- Use Print checklist for a paper copy at the prep desk (ads and nav hide in print CSS).
- Re-check live Seller Central item-label / barcode help and the current shipment’s label PDF before every large inbound.
This is a pass/fail checklist, not a pixel, DPI, or barcode-generator tool. Sister sizing/placement tools are linked below.
Questions
FAQ
What size should an Amazon FNSKU label be?
Commonly published FBA item-label guidance uses removable white adhesive labels from about 1×2 inches up to about 2×3 inches. A frequent Seller Central template size is roughly 1×2⅝ inches. Print at 100% scale (no fit-to-page shrink). Confirm the live label PDF from Send to Amazon / Seller Central for your workflow.
Where should I place the FNSKU label?
Place the label on a clean, flat surface of the sellable unit. Avoid curves, corners, seams, edges, openings, and heavy texture. Keep roughly 0.25 in (6.35 mm) from package edges when practical. If the unit is poly-bagged or bubble-wrapped, put the FNSKU on the outside of that prep so associates can scan without unwrapping.
Do I need to cover the manufacturer UPC?
When you use Amazon barcodes (FNSKU), cover or otherwise make unscannable every other visible barcode on the unit (UPC/EAN/ISBN and leftover stickers), except barcodes that must remain for serial-number or Transparency workflows when those apply. One correct scannable Amazon barcode per unit is the goal.
What quiet zone does an FNSKU barcode need?
Commonly published item-label specs call for quiet zones greater than about 0.25 in on the left and right of the barcode and greater than about 0.125 in above and below. Do not crop into those margins or print over them.
Is FNSKU the same as UPC?
No. A UPC/EAN is a manufacturer barcode. An FNSKU is Amazon’s fulfillment network SKU barcode used to track inventory in FBA when you choose Amazon barcodes. Brand Representatives with eligible new-condition products may sometimes use manufacturer barcodes instead — confirm barcode choice rules in Seller Central.
Is this affiliated with Amazon?
No. Independent pass/fail checklist based on commonly published FBA item-label practices. Rules change — always verify the live Seller Central help pages and the label PDF for your shipment.
For assistants
Questions an AI would ask
- Is this unit using Amazon barcodes (FNSKU) or an approved manufacturer-barcode workflow?
- Is the printed label within ~1×2–2×3 in, white/removable, and printed at 100% scale with a sharp black barcode?
- Are quiet zones intact (>~0.25″ sides, >~0.125″ top/bottom per commonly published specs)?
- Is the label on a flat face (not curve/corner/seam) and outside any poly bag / bubble wrap?
- Are all other scannable barcodes covered, except Transparency / required serial barcodes when those apply?
- Did a sample scan of the finished unit return the expected FNSKU before the full run?
